Questo galleggiante era stato pensato per trasportare materiale da depositare sul letto di un fiume dalle acque tranquille e non troppo profonde, alzandone così il fondo e permettendo il passaggio di truppe.
Tale rialzamento doveva ottenersi con il getto ("nel luogo dove vuoi") di ghiaia trasportata con questi galleggianti che, usati come "mezzi di circostanza", potevano essere costruiti sul luogo stesso di impiego utilizzando canne o vimini intrecciati e poi rivestiti di pelli.

This basket had been planned to carry material, such as pebbles, to be lodged on the bed of a river the water of which had to be quiet and not too deep. The purpose was to heighten the bottom in order to let the troops cross the river.
These floating baskets could be built when necessary on the same place they were to be used. They were made of reeds or wickers and covered with raw skins.
