Ponte girevole su barche

Il ponte poteva essere costruito con barche o botti e poteva essere alloggiato in un’apposita nicchia ricavata nell’argine del fiume stesso mediante l’uso di un apposito argano mosso da terra.
Tale sistema era pensato per i fiumi con acque tranquille. Questo ponte Leonardo lo descrisse nella lettera a Ludovico il Moro.

The bridge could be built with boats or barrels and it could be housed into a niche made on purpose in the bank of the river, by means of a winch operated from the bank. This bridge was supposed for smooth water courses. Leonardo described this bridge in a letter to Ludovico il Moro.

Si tratta di uno dei ponti "leggerissimi e forti" che Leonardo descriveva nella sua famosa lettera a Ludovico il Moro. Tali ponti dovevano essere costruiti con materiale facilmente trasportabile. Quello a profilo parabolico è concepito ad una sola campata ed è fissato ad una delle due sponde con un grande perno verticale.
Lo spostamento avviene a mezzo di corde ed argani, con l’aiuto di ruote per favorirne lo scorrimento. È inoltre fornito di un contrappeso che serve ad equilibrare la manovra quando il ponte resta sospeso prima di appoggiarsi all’altra sponda.

It’s one of the bridges "very light and strong" Leonardo used to describe in his correspondence with the prince of Milan. Those bridges were to be built with easy conveyable material.The one with a parabolic profile was drawn with one span only and it was fixed to one of the two banks by means of an upright pin. (pivot).
It operated by means of ropes and winches with the help of wheels which made the sliding easier. A counterbalance helped to keep the bridge well balanced when it was suspended before reaching the other bank
